Water-level and soil sensors for the rest of the ranch

Two LoRa sensors extend Herdwize beyond the animal: an 80 GHz radar sensor that watches stock-water levels, and a soil probe that tracks pasture moisture and conductivity. Both run five years on one battery and report through the same gateway as your collars.

Key features

Know before a tank runs dry

An 80 GHz radar sensor reads water levels from 0.05 to 40 m with ±2 cm accuracy, so a stuck float or broken line shows up on your screen before cattle find an empty trough.

Non-contact radar

The radar head mounts above the water and never touches it, leaving nothing in the tank to foul or corrode.

Pasture moisture and salinity

The soil probe measures volumetric water content (0–100%, ±2% up to 50%) and electrical conductivity up to 20,000 µS/cm to guide grazing rotations and irrigation.

Five-year battery

A 20,000 mAh battery keeps each sensor reporting for five years with no wiring and no charging.

Same network as your collars

Both sensors report over LoRa, up to 5 km in open areas, through your Herdwize gateway and appear in the same platform as your herd.

Weatherproof

IP67-rated composite housings, and the radar sensor operates from −40 °C to 75 °C.

Frequently asked questions

What can the water-level sensor monitor?
Water levels in stock tanks, troughs and cisterns: anywhere the radar head can be mounted above the water surface, from 0.05 m to 40 m away.
Does the radar sensor work in winter?
The sensor is rated from −40 °C to 75 °C. Radar reads whatever surface is below it, so an iced-over tank reports the ice surface, which is itself an early warning that cattle may not be able to drink.
How is the soil sensor installed?
The probe is buried in a representative spot in the field, with its cable running to the enclosure on a short stake. It measures volumetric water content and electrical conductivity in the surrounding soil.
Do the sensors need their own gateway?
No. They use the same LoRa gateway as your collars, and each sensor reaches up to 5 km in open areas.
