Solar GPS collars for location, security and virtual fencing

Five collar models share one rugged platform: a built-in solar panel, GPS, a pedometer and anti-tamper hardware. Choose LoRa models that report through your own Herdwize gateway, or 4G models that report directly over the cellular network.

Key features

GPS location

Positions every collared animal with 1–2.5 m accuracy on the GC09 and GC010, at an interval you set to 1, 5, 10 or 30 minutes. GC05, GC07 and GC08 report every 30 minutes at 2.5–5 m.

Solar powered

A built-in solar panel keeps the collar running continuously with at least four hours of daily sunlight, for a 5-year service life. Batteries range from 2,500 to 10,000 mAh, and most models also support contact charging.

Anti-theft and anti-removal

Every model combines anti-tamper construction with an anti-removal function. Status is checked every 5–30 minutes, and each animal's last reported position is always on the map.

Virtual fencing

The GC010 adds electronic fencing: boundaries you set in the platform, enforced with a buzzer cue and a multi-level electric stimulus once cattle are trained.

Temperature and heat

GC08, GC09 and GC010 add temperature measurement, and estrus detection is available as an option on the GC010.

LoRa or 4G

LoRa models (GC05, GC07, GC010) need no cellular service and report through a Herdwize gateway up to 5 km away in open terrain. 4G models (GC08, GC09) connect directly wherever there is coverage.

Frequently asked questions

Should I choose a LoRa or a 4G collar?
Choose LoRa (GC05, GC07, GC010) when you run your own Herdwize gateway: there is no per-collar cellular plan, and it works where there is no cell signal, up to about 5 km from each gateway in open terrain. Choose 4G (GC08, GC09) for scattered or remote groups inside cellular coverage where installing a gateway is not practical.
Do the collars need charging?
Each collar has a built-in solar panel and is designed for a 5-year service life, running continuously with at least four hours of daily sunlight. GC07, GC08, GC09 and GC010 also support contact charging for long stretches of low light or for housed animals.
How accurate is the GPS?
The GC09 and GC010 achieve 1–2.5 m and let you set the reporting interval to 1, 5, 10 or 30 minutes. The GC05, GC07 and GC08 achieve 2.5–5 m with a 30-minute interval, which suits daily location checks and theft monitoring on open range.
How does virtual fencing work on the GC010?
The GC010 combines GPS with a buzzer and an electric stimulus that has several levels. Boundaries are set and shown in the Herdwize platform. Cattle need a training period to learn the cue, and you should check local regulations for stimulus collars before you deploy.
Can a collar help recover stolen cattle?
Every model has an anti-tamper design and an anti-removal function. Each collar checks its status every 5 to 30 minutes (configurable), so a removal is reported at the next check together with the last known position. 4G models keep reporting beyond the farm wherever there is coverage.
