Herdwize by Octyde Inc.

Herdwize is the livestock intelligence platform developed by Octyde Inc., a Canadian technology company specializing in IoT infrastructure, embedded systems, and applied machine learning. Octyde designs and manufactures all Herdwize hardware in-house — from circuit board layout to firmware development to injection-molded enclosures. This vertical integration enables aggressive cost optimization and rapid iteration cycles that off-the-shelf component resellers cannot match.

In-House Hardware Development

Every Herdwize device is designed from the ground up by the Octyde engineering team. We control the full hardware stack: PCB design, antenna engineering, firmware development, power management optimization, and enclosure manufacturing. This allows us to deliver sensing hardware at price points that make per-animal deployment economically viable — even for operations with thousands of head.

  • Full-stack hardware development: PCB, firmware, enclosure
  • Sub-$30 unit cost at production scale
  • Rapid prototyping to production pipeline
  • Quality control from component sourcing to final assembly

AI & Data Engineering

The Herdwize AI engine is built on real-world farm data, not laboratory datasets. Our data science team works directly with pilot farm partners to collect, label, and validate behavioral datasets across cattle, sheep, and goat populations. Model training incorporates seasonal variations, breed-specific behavioral patterns, and regional environmental factors.

  • Models trained on real farm deployment data
  • Multi-species behavioral dataset covering cattle, sheep, goats
  • Quarterly model retraining with expanding field data
  • Collaboration with veterinary researchers for clinical validation

Leadership Team

Herdwize is built by a cross-disciplinary team with backgrounds in embedded systems engineering, data science, and commercial agriculture.

Peter Wang

Founder & CEO

Serial entrepreneur with deep expertise in IoT product development and manufacturing. Previously founded and scaled hardware companies from prototype to mass production. At Herdwize, Peter leads business strategy, go-to-market, and partnerships with commercial livestock operations across North America.

Archer Zhang

Founder & CTO

Full-stack IoT architect with 15+ years in embedded systems, wireless protocols, and cloud infrastructure. Previously led IoT product development at scale. Designed the Herdwize hardware platform from PCB layout through firmware to cloud integration.

Veterinary Advisory Board

Clinical Validation Partners

Herdwize collaborates with veterinary researchers across Western Canada to validate behavioral detection models against clinical outcomes. Our advisory board provides guidance on estrus physiology, BRD pathology, and welfare assessment protocols.

Platform Vision

Herdwize is building toward a future where every commercial livestock animal has a digital identity — a continuous data record of health, behavior, location, and productivity that follows the animal through its lifetime. This data layer becomes the foundation for precision livestock farming: automated feeding optimization, predictive veterinary care, carbon footprint measurement, and supply chain traceability.

5-Year Platform Roadmap

1

Phase 1: Monitoring (Current)

Real-time health and behavior monitoring with automated alerts. Establishing the sensing infrastructure and data collection layer.

2

Phase 2: Predictive (2026-2027)

AI-powered prediction for health events, reproduction, and production outcomes. Moving from reactive alerts to proactive recommendations.

3

Phase 3: Data Infrastructure (2028+)

Becoming the data backbone for precision livestock farming. APIs for feed optimization systems, veterinary platforms, supply chain traceability, and carbon accounting.
